NSW IVF Rebates

Pre-IVF Fertility Testing Rebate

Planning for pregnancy can be an exciting – and overwhelming time. Pre-screening tests can help determine whether a couple is likely to experience a positive result through IVF.  The NSW Government now provides a Pre-IVF Fertility Testing Rebate that helps eligible NSW residents cover the costs of fertility testing.

The Pre-IVF Fertility Testing Rebate is a one-time payment of $250, as of 1 January 2023 (previously $500).

What is covered by the Pre-IVF Fertility Check Up rebate?

AMH test

Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is a hormone secreted by cells in developing egg sacs (follicles). The level of AMH in a woman's blood is generally a good indicator of her ovarian reserve. AMH does not change during your menstrual cycle, so the blood sample can be taken at any time of the month - even while you are using oral contraception.

Semen analysis

To measure the quantity and quality of sperm.

Pelvic ultrasound

Checks the lining of your womb and overall structure and helps diagnose any underlying conditions such as fibroids or ovarian cysts.

Ovulation test

A blood test to test for ovulation.

If you have undergone an eligible procedure from 1 October 2022 with IVFAustralia, you will be able to submit a claim when the rebate scheme officially opens on the 1st  of January, 2023.

NSW IVF Rebate FAQs

Is IVF covered by Medicare NSW?

Women in NSW undergoing IVF and other fertility treatments can submit a claim for a one-off cash rebate of up to $2,000 to reduce treatment costs, if they meet the eligibility criteria. Medicare also provides additional rebates once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold in a calendar year.

How many rounds of IVF can the rebate cover?

Eligible applicants will receive $2,000 as a one-off payment if their claim is successful. At this stage, the rebate may only be claimed once. The Medicare Safety Net may also help to ease financial pressure within one calendar year through additional rebates.

Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold in a calendar year, Medicare will pay an additional rebate on selected items. To claim the Medicare rebate, you need a current referral from your GP or specialist gynaecologist/obstetrician.

IVFAustralia provides a range of payment options to suit your individual needs for your treatment journey. From personalised IVF payment plans, to pay later options, find out more below.
