Overview
If your specialist recommends fertility treatment with IVFAustralia, following is an overview of the three main cost areas associated with fertility treatment and an indication of the out of pocket costs you could expect after Medicare and Private Health Fund rebates, for Medicare eligible patients only.
IVFAustralia's bottom line out of pocket costs are signficantly lower than some other Sydney clinics.
When considering fertility treatment, it is important to understand the final out of pocket costs you will incur and the speed with which you can receive your Medicare rebate.
Example for couples who have already reached the Medicare Safety Net $1,157.50 threshold in the calendar year they are undertaking fertility treatment ie 2011:

1. The Treatment Cycle Fee (Eligible for Medicare Rebates)
This fee includes the personalised management of your treatment cycle by your specialist, all blood tests, pathology, ultrasounds, standard medications, counselling during and immediately post cycle, all consultations undertaken during your cycle by your fertility specialist, and specialised care by your multidisciplinary team.
2. Medication Costs (Not Covered by Medicare)
Medicare does not cover some commonly used medications prescribed by your fertility doctor. There will be an additional charge for these and they will be explained to you if prescribed.
Unlike other clinics who insist that you go to an external pharmacy to collect this medication, IVFAustralia patients can collect these medications direct from us at a lower cost.
MEDICATIONS
(Not covered by Medicare commonly prescribed during IVF treatment)

3. Day Surgery Fees (Covered by Private Health Insurance)
You will need admission to a day procedure centre for egg collection and embryo transfer for IVF/ICSI treatments (including frozen embryo transfer cycles) only not IUI or OI. If you are privately insured, this will be covered by your health fund. Depending on your level of cover, you may be required to pay an excess by your health fund. We will contact your health fund for you and determine these costs and inform you prior to your admission.
If you have no private insurance, the cost of this will vary, depending on the private hospital and the anaesthetist involved but may be up to $1,750. There is no Medicare rebate for day surgery procedures.
