Previous Pregnancies

If you have ever been pregnant in the past, this is a good indication that you will be able to conceive in the future – even if that pregnancy wasn’t carried to term.

There are a few factors that will affect your ability to conceive again after a previous pregnancy:

  • If you have a different partner
  • Your age, and your partner’s age

Unexplained secondary fertility can occur, whether you are still with the same partner or with someone new. Contact us if you are concerned that this could be an issue.

Conceiving after a termination

Having a termination will not affect your chances of having a baby in the future, if there were no complications with the procedure. Problems, such as injury to the uterus or cervix or serious infection as a result of the termination are extremely unlikely.

If you are now ready to have a child, it is a good sign that you were able to conceive in the past.

Conceiving after a miscarriage

Miscarriage, or a pregnancy loss before 20 weeks, occurs in as many as one in six pregnancies. While it is heartbreaking at the time, the outlook is still positive as most couples will go on to have a healthy family. If you experience recurrent miscarriage, two or more consecutive miscarriages, we can help with investigation into the possible causes, advice and treatment.
