Step 1:  Contact IVFAustralia

Contact IVFAustralia either on +61 2 8346 6864 or the web site info@ivf.com.au. At this initial contact details such as a phone number and /or an email address will be taken.  A general summary of your fertility history and the treatment sought will be obtained. The co-ordinator will outline the fertility specialists available to manage international patients and will offer an appointment for a telephone consultation for the specialist of your choice.  The telephone consultation with the fertility specialist attracts a fee of $200A and must be paid in advance of the call.

Step 2:  Telephone Consult with your Fertility Specialist

During a detailed consultation with your IVFAustralia fertilityspecialist (allow a minimum of 30mins) your medical history will be recorded, test results available considered, and potentially more tests requested. For example, additional specific blood tests, a semen analysis or ultrasound scans. Some preliminary advice regarding your treatment options will be discussed with you by the fertility specialist.

Step 3:  Treatment Plan confirmed

If the plan is to proceed with fertility treatment the appropriate consent forms and a detailed plan of your treatment cycle, medication and timeline of dates, will be provided to you.

In addition you will be given access to additional information which will assist you through your pathway of care providing a detailed description of your treatment plan. The international patient nurse coordinator will contact you and provide a further orientation to the treatment cycle. We also encourage a telephone consultation with one of our counsellors to assist you in preparing for treatment.  A typical IVF cycle for an international patient will cost $12,000A plus the cost of any drugs you may need to acquire locally.

Step 4:  Prepare Travel Arrangements to Sydney

Visa, accommodation and travel arrangements should be made at this point. We can assist you with this if required. The following email link provides details of a migration agent who can assist with visa applications: merryl@exchange.ipcnsw.com or call Merryl Dawson on (0011) 61-2-9299 2090.

IVFAustralia has arranged special accommodation rates with The Waldoff Apartment Group which has properties located close to all of our clinics (these can be viewed at www.waldorf.com.au ). Should you wish to book this accommodation please contact Michelle Paulson michelle@waldorf.com.au and advise that you are a patient with IVFAustralia.

Further information and advice on accommodation and attractions in Sydney are available from the NSW Travel Centre and www.australia.com.

Step 5:   Treatment Commences

For your convenience you will normally start the fertility treatment at home three to four weeks before your fertility specialist appointment in Sydney. We will be there to support you over the phone or via email as required.  Alternatively you may wish to undergo the full treatment cycle in Australia. Either way your fertility specialist will manage your treatment with assistance from the nurse coordinator assigned to you.

Step 6: Travel to Sydney for final monitoring and treatment

Once you have started treatment in your own country you then fly in to Sydney for the monitoring of the final phase of your treatment cycle (for the egg collection, laboratory procedures and embryo transfer).

On arrival you will meet your fertility specialist and nurse coordinator who will closely monitor and care for you during the critical egg collection, embryo development and transfer.

Within a couple of days of your embryo transfer you can travel home. On average you would expect to be in Sydney for approximately two weeks (maximum three weeks).

For a treatment cycle where you have chosen to have all aspects of your care undertaken in Australia we recommend you plan to spend three months in Sydney (standard tourist visa).

Step 8:  Ongoing care once you arrive home

We will continue ongoing support and contact upon your return home. A full copy of your medical record will be provided to you on completion of your treatment along with a letter for your local supervising physician detailing the treatment undertaken.  Within two weeks of being home you will have a pregnancy blood test and then talk with your fertility specialist again. Your nurse coordinator will also call you to check on your progress.

Excess embryos not used during your initial cycle may be frozen and used for an additional frozen embryo transfer at a later time increasing your chance of achieving a pregnancy.
