Costs

"Patients achieve high success rates through access to the latest scientific developments in assisted reproductive technology.."

IVFAustralia’s success rates and personalised care by accredited fertility sub-specialists is attracting an increasing number of patients.

Our cost structure reflects our personal approach - patients are not all charged the same lump sum fee as there may be treatments that you will not require. Your treatment is personalised to meet your individual needs and circumstances, ensuring you only incur costs for the procedures and services that you need, making us one of the most affordable fertility clinics in Sydney.

At IVFAustralia:

  • Your fertility specialist will recommend treatment, at affordable costs planned to avoid large up front charges; and
  • Where possible IVFAustralia claims directly from Medicare the Government approved fees saving you time and inconvenience.
Never before have Australians had such good access to the highly specialised fertility treatments thanks to the support of the Federal Government and the Australian community.

The majority of fertility treatment costs will be covered by Medicare and if you have private health insurance your costs may be further reduced. The Medicare Plus Safety Net pays 80% of Medicare approved out-of-pocket costs that you may incur (including specialist consultations and IVF services) once an annual threshold has been reached.

We aim to make your payment structure as simple and straightforward as possible and while we provide an overview below it is important to meet with one of our fertility specialists to understand what your specific treatment and costs plan may be.

A fully itemised and informed financial consent will be provided to you before commencing any treatment. We are aware of the complex nature of the Australian Health Industry and this may be your first experience with it, our very experienced administration staff are available at any time to assist you in understanding these costs.

Many couples accessing fertility treatment for the first time are unlikely to have reached $1,058.70 Medicare Safety Net (the amount the government require you to pay for health care before subsidising) threshold prior to beginning treatment.  This means that your first treatment cycle is likely to cost you more than subsequent treatment cycles within that same calendar year.

Your first contact with IVFAustralia will be following a referral from a doctor to one of our fertility specialists to assess and review your medical history. Your initial consultation will be billed by IVFAustralia for your specialist and will be approximately $200.00. Medicare will reimburse you $65.70.

Your specialist may request some further investigations at this appointment ( blood tests, semen analysis  and ultrasound tests). As IVFAustralia’s experienced specialist scientific team undertake most of these tests inhouse they will be bulk billed to Medicare. That means you will not have to pay any gap (extra) payments.

If your specialist recommends fertility treatment with IVFAustralia,  below is an indication of the out-of-pocket costs you could expect after Medicare and Private Health Fund rebates, for Medicare eligible patients for the different types of treatments available.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

The following provides a guideline of the potential additional costs that may be incurred. These are split from the IVF fee as not all patients will require all of these items or treatments or because the government does not fund these items:
  • Additional Drugs:  Your doctor may prescribe drugs that are not always routinely used. These drugs have not been included by Medicare in the IVF Cycle fees and are not covered by the Health Insurance commission (HIC). Allow between $80 to $420 depending on your particular treatment.
  • Hospital / Day surgery costs:  We offer patients the choice of light general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic at an IVFAustralia approved day surgery (hospital/day surgery costs are covered by private health insurance) and anaesthetist costs will be quoted as an additional fee depending on the anaesthetic provided (normally around $400). A rebate will apply.
  • Cryostorage (embryo freezing and freezing for 6 months):  First 6 months $250, subsequent 6 months $150 (we do not include this in the overall fee as there will not always be embryos available to freeze).
  • Pre-genetic Diagnosis PGD: used to diagnose hereditary and genetic disease. Requires discussion with our specialist genetics team who will quote depending on tests required. This procedure is not covered by Medicare.
