Overview
At IVFAustralia we start with the least invasive treatment. In many cases very simple techniques such as medication to help a woman ovulate, may be all that is required to achieve conception.
Simple Techniques
Ovulation Induction (OI):
Ovulation induction is used when a woman is either producing only low levels of hormones that enable her to conceive, or is not ovulating at all. Treatment involves taking hormone stimulating medication (normally oral) to maximise the chance of conception.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI):
IUI is commonly used to treat women who have normal healthy Fallopian tubes and when more complex treatments are not appropriate. Treatment involves placing partner's concentrated semen inside the womb near the time of ovulation. IUI is also used in treatment involving using frozen embryos.
Advanced Techniques
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF):
Mature eggs are collected from the ovary after ovulation enhancement, placed with sperm in the laboratory, and later one or two of the resulting embryos are transferred
to the uterus.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI):
The treatment process is the same as IVF except for the way in which the egg is fertilised. With ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into the egg to achieve fertilisation. This method is very successful in overcoming problems of male infertility.
