Assisted Hatching

Assisted Hatching

Overview

During assisted hatching a small area on the outer layer of the egg (called the zona) is thinned by a laser. This helps with ‘hatching’ (where the embryo ‘hatches’ out of the shell), and therefore implantation of the embryo inside the uterus. This technique may be of benefit in patients with previous treatment failure and those over 38 years of age.
