Overview
Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a common technique that is similar to the IVF process. The only difference is the laboratory technique used to fertilise the egg and sperm.
With ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each egg to achieve fertilisation. The resulting embryos are then allowed to develop in the laboratory for 2 – 5 days before being transferred back to the woman.
This method is very successful in overcoming male sperm problems, such as where the sperm may not be strong enough to fertilise the egg on its own.
