Freezing Embryos

Freezing Embryos

Overview

Freeze-storage of embryos, known as cryopreservationinvolves storing any excess healthy embryos for future transfer.

Couples who have frozen embryos can choose to use these for further treatment, which is called a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET).

The benefit of undergoing a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is that comprehensive additional treatment cycles, hormone medications and repetitive egg retrieval surgery can be avoided.

Embryos can be frozen from four cell stage (i.e. Day 2) to Blastocyst (Day 5). The success rates from frozen embryo transfers are approximately 30%.
