Step 13: Pregnancy test
The nurses will organise an appointment for you to have a blood pregnancy test two
weeks after the embryo transfer. This is conducted whether or not your period has
commenced, as occasionally pregnant women still have a period.
We do not recommend the use of urinary pregnancy test kits, as the hormone medication
given throughout treatment provides an incorrect reading. The only reliable pregnancy
test is a blood test.
The results of the pregnancy test are usually available by mid-afternoon. If the
test is positive, we will arrange an ultrasound scan to be carried out approximately
three weeks later.
