Calculate your fertile window

Trying to fall pregnant?

Want Insight in to your Fertility? Here’s 6 easy steps to follow – and the first 4 you can do yourself – for free!

Step 1:  UNDERSTAND your fertile time

It may seem simple, but the average couple has just a 20% chance of conceiving in any given month of unprotected sex. Every woman is different, and your menstrual cycle may also vary month to month. With our Ovulation Calculator you can understand your individual pregnancy window, and then ensure you have intercourse one or two days before ovulation (which is when you are most likely to conceive) so you have plenty of sperm ‘in the right place at the right time’.  Regular sex, two to three times a week, will also boost your chances further.

Step 2:  IMPROVE your health and lifestyle

Healthy parents and healthy babies go hand in hand.  But not only that, improving your health can also increase your likelihood of conceiving naturally. You and your partner should:

  • make sure you eat a healthy diet
  • maintain a healthy weight
  • stop smoking and any recreational drug use
  • only drink alcohol in moderation, and
  • exercise regularly.

Women should also:

  • take 500 ug of folic acid each day
  • take multi-vitamins for general health
  • visit the GP for antenatal blood tests, including checks for rubella and chicken pox status, blood group, Rh factor, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C
  • review current medications and any implications for pregnancy with a GP, and
  • understand your menstrual cycle.

Step 3:  ASK questions!

There is no harm in asking questions of someone you can trust!  Our friendly nurses are here to give free and confidential advice.  They work hand-in-hand with our Fertility Specialists and have helped hundreds of couples on their path to parenthood.  They may offer some simple advice that you have overlooked.  Simply call 1800 111 483 and they will be happy to answer all your questions. You can also email us with your enquiry.

Step 4:  TALK to a Fertility Specialist at a free seminar

Our Fertility Specialists hold FREE information evenings where you can meet our team of experts face-to-face.  These seminars explain factors that can affect fertility, as well as describe the various options available to you. After the presentation you’ll also have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with our Specialists and have some initial questions answered.

Step 5:  UNDERSTAND your individual situation

If you’ve tried steps 1 to 4, and are not falling pregnant as quickly as you’d hoped, we recommend you have a consultation with one of our Fertility Specialists. This is especially important if you are under 35 and have been trying for 12 months or more, or if you are over 35 and haven’t fallen pregnant after six months of trying – it is time for some specialist investigation and answers.

At this consultation, your Fertility Specialist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your fertility, which will help you and your partner understand your potential to fall pregnant and all your available options. This will include initial blood tests for her, to understand ovulation and the number of eggs available, and for him a semen analysis to understand quality and volume of sperm.

Step 6:  CONTROL your own path to pregnancy

In your follow up appointment your Fertility Specialist will explain the results of these investigations and discuss the options that are available to you in order to improve your chance of conception. Conception is a sequence of events, and your results and options will be explained as they relate to

  • Your age
  • Ovulation
  • Sperm quality
  • Egg and sperm union
  • Implantation

Based on your individual circumstances, together you will decide on a path to pregnancy that’s right for you. For many couples, lifestyle changes are recommended first, non or minimally invasive and lower cost procedures such as timed conception and ovulation induction are the next line of treatment before more sophisticated fertility treatments.
