A/Prof Peter Illingworth, Medical Director
MD(Hons) FRCOG FRANZCOG CREI

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology & Gynaecology 

A/Prof Peter Illingworth is an accredited specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist with over 20 years specialist experience in the area of infertility practice. He started his medical training in the UK, receiving his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and achieving his Doctorate of Medicine with honours at Dundee, UK. Having completed his obstetric and gynaecology training, he worked as a Senior Consultant at the UK Medical Research Council Reproductive Science Unit in Edinburgh. 

Prof Illingworth has an international reputation in the field of Reproductive Medicine. He has published over 70 research papers and book chapters as well as providing regular media comment in Australia. He has served on a number of senior committees of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. 

Prof Illingworth moved to Australia in early 1996 and completely subspecialised in Reproductive Endocrinology. He is Medical Director of IVFAustralia, Clinical Director of IVFAustralia Western Sydney, a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists UK, and is a Royal College examiner in the Certificate of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. 

Prof Illingworth has a special interest in reproductive endocrinology and disorders of female fertility.


Dr Andrew Kan (简国顺医生)
MB BS (Hons) MMed MRCOG FRANZCOG CREI

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology & Gynaecology 

Dr Andrew Kan graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 1988. After serving two and a half years in the Navy for National Service in Singapore he returned to Sydney to commence his Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in 1991. After attaining his membership of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, he worked in London for three years in Guys, St Thomas’ and Lister Hospitals, to further his training in infertility. 

Dr Kan returned to Sydney and completed his Master of Medicine (Reproductive Health and Genetics) at the University of Sydney in 2002, prior to obtaining his sub-specialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) in 2003. 

He is a Visiting Medical Officer at Ryde & Hornsby hospitals. 

Dr Kan’s special areas of interest include polycystic ovarian syndrome, surgical treatment of male infertility and treatment of patients needing donor sperm or oocytes. 

Dr Kan speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.


Dr Raewyn Teirney
MB ChB(NZ) MM(RH&HG) FRANZCOG CREI

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynaecology & Laparoscopic Surgery 

Dr Raewyn Teirney obtained her MB ChB Degree from Auckland University and a Masters of Medicine in Reproductive Health and Human Genetics from The University of Sydney. 

After her Obstetric and Gynaecology training Dr Teirney continued further subspeciality training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as a Clinical Lecturer at Cambridge University and Bourn Hall IVF Centre in England. 

In 2002 she obtained her Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. 

She is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. 

Dr Teirney has a special interest in male and female infertility, endometriosis laparoscopic surgery and menstrual disorders.


Dr Jeffrey Persson
MD FRANZCOG CREI

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology & Gynaecology 

Dr Jeffrey Persson trained and worked in Amsterdam before obtaining his Masters of Reproductive Medicine. In 1995 he received his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and his Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) with his thesis “Genetic aspects of reproductive failure”. 

Dr Persson has practised with one of Australia’s leading infertility units and has over a decade of experience in this subspecialty area. 

Dr Persson currently lectures at Sydney University and is actively involved in clinical research and is published on genetic aspects of infertility. 

Dr Persson has extensive knowledge and experience in both male and female infertility.

Dr Gavin Sacks
MA BM BCh PhD, MRCOG, FRANZCOG

Infertility, Gynaecology & Obstetrics 

Dr Gavin Sacks qualified in the UK from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, and received a PhD in reproductive immunology at the University of Oxford. He completed training as a fertility specialist in London (UK equivalent of CREI), and was the senior registrar at the Hammersmith IVF unit, and the St Mary’s Miscarriage and Polycystic Ovary clinics. He is now living permanently in Sydney, having obtained fellowship of both the UK and Australian and New Zealand Royal Colleges of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. 

Dr Sacks has continued his research interests in Sydney and is a part-time Staff Specialist at St George Hospital and conjoint senior lecturer at UNSW. He lectures regularly at national and international meetings, teaches and examines medical students at UNSW, and has over 30 publications in the fields of pregnancy immunology, infertility, miscarriage, and pre-eclampsia. He is currently investigating the role of natural killer cells in miscarriage, infertility and IVF. 

In addition to his work in infertility, Dr Sacks maintains a private obstetric practice, enabling him to provide continuity of care for many of his fertility/miscarriage patients from early pregnancy to birth. He is also a co-ordinator of the IVFAustralia Miscarriage Care Programme, 

Dr Sacks’ special interests are IVF, unexplained infertility, recurrent miscarriage and surgical treatment of infertility.
