IVF costs under the microscope

31st December 2009

IVFAustralia's out of pocket costs for patients remains up to $1,000 less than other Sydney clinics.

The 2009/10 Federal Budget announced changes to the Medicare Safety Net for IVF patients. These changes were passed in the Senate and come into effect from 1 January 2010.

As IVFAustralia's fees are in the average range as defined by the government, the out of pocket costs for our patients remain up to $1,000 less at IVFAustralia compared to some other major Sydney clinics, as our priority is to ensure access to highly specialised IVF treatment.

The bottom line out of pocket costs for patients will not increase by the thousands of dollars initially suggested, dependent on the type of treatment undertaken.

Due to changes in the Medicare item numbers, and the way that patients recover rebates from Medicare, there will be an apparent rise in the initial upfront payment for fertility treatment.  Patients will be able to reclaim almost all of this increase as soon as treatment has been completed (after the embryo transfer or artificial insemination).

Our administration process aims to have your invoice available within one working day of your treatment being completed. At IVFAustralia, we offer direct electronic lodging of Medicare claims enabling Medicare rebates to be deposited in a patient's bank account within 3-5 days of being processed.

Patients at IVFAustralia benefit from success rates equal to the best in the country, and our live birth rate statistics, reported to the National Perinatal Statistics Unit, substantiate this. It is the quality of care and value for money that is the IVFAustralia difference for patients.

At IVFAustralia, we pride ourselves on delivering world-class fertility treatment, provided by highly qualified (CREI accredited) Fertility Specialists of international standing. Many of our doctors are pioneers of IVF in this country, striving to continue to improve care, success rates and most importantly affordable access for all Australians.

We encourage people considering fertility treatment to understand clearly their final out of pocket expenses and our experienced administration team are happy to meet with you to explain the rebates available in detail.
