Our surgical facilities and laboratory are co-located in three locations across Sydney, which avoid the known hazards of transporting fragile eggs and embryos.

Professor Michael Chapman

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology & Gynaecology

Professor Chapman gained his initial Degree in Medicine from the University of Adelaide where he specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology before moving to the UK. Whilst in the UK Prof Chapman developed extensive experience in infertility, hormonal disorders and ART and worked at Queen Charlottes Maternity Hospital as Lecturer.

Prof Chapman became a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and gained his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of London. He was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the University of London.

After 15 years Prof Chapman returned to Australia ultimately to become Head of School, Women’s and Children’s Health, University of New South Wales, He is also Clinical Director at St George Hospital Kogarah.

Prof Chapman has served as a Director of the Fertility Society of Australia and is currently Chairman of the IVF Director’s Group. He is an examiner for the Certificate in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, of which he is a Fellow.

Prof Chapman has run IVF services in London, Naples, Jeddah and Sydney. He lectures regularly at national and international meetings, has written over 100 scientific publications and many book chapters.

His particular interests are in IVF, polycystic ovarian syndrome, recurrent miscarriage and menstrual problems. Relatively uniquely for a fertility specialist, he maintains a private obstetric practice which has enabled him to follow his fertility patients from conception to birth.

Dr Andrew Kan

Dr Andrew Kan graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 1988. After serving two and a half years in the Navy for National Service in Singapore he returned to Sydney to commence his Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in 1991.

After attaining his membership of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, he worked in London for three years in Guys, St Thomas’ and Lister Hospitals, to further his training in infertility. Dr Kan returned to Sydney and completed his Master of Medicine (Reproductive Health and Genetics) at the University of Sydney in 2002, prior to obtaining his sub-specialty certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) in 2003.

He is a Visiting Medical Officer at Ryde & Hornsby hospitals. Dr Kan’s special areas of interest include polycystic ovarian syndrome, surgical treatment of male infertility and treatment of patients needing donor sperm or oocytes.

Dr Kan speaks fluent Mandarin and Cantonese.

Dr Gavin Sacks

Dr Gavin Sacks is a fertility specialist and co-director of the IVFAustralia Miscarriage Programme. He qualified in the UK from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford and received a PhD in reproductive immunology at the University of Oxford.  He completed training in reproductive medicine in Sydney and London (UK equivalent of CREI) and moved to Sydney in 2005 having obtained fellowship of both the UK and Australian and New Zealand Royal Colleges of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Dr Sacks has particular interests in unexplained infertility, repeated IVF failure and miscarriage, and Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis.  He is a strong advocate of exploring strategies to achieve a family that are both effective and holistic.  He has pioneered research in reproductive immunology (including Natural Killer cell testing) and has initiated a large study on the role of acupuncture in IVF and miscarriage.  

As a conjoint senior lecturer at UNSW and Staff Specialist at St George Hospital, Dr Sacks teaches and examines for the Bachelor of Medicine and Master of Reproductive Medicine degrees, supervises research, and lectures regularly at national and international meetings. He has over 30 publications to date.

He investigates and manages all aspects of both male and female infertility and maintains a private obstetric practice as a Visiting Medical Officer at Prince of Wales and St George Private Hospitals. This enables him to provide continuity of care for many of his patients from fertility investigation through to childbirth.

Dr Raewyn Teirney

MB ChB(NZ) MM(RH&HG) FRANZCOG CREI

Infertility, Reproductive Endocrinology, Gynaecology & Laparoscopic Surgery

Dr Raewyn Teirney obtained her MB ChB Degree from Auckland University and a Masters of Medicine in Reproductive Health and Human Genetics from The University of Sydney.

After her Obstetric and Gynaecology training Dr Teirney continued further subspeciality training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility as a Clinical Lecturer at Cambridge University and Bourn Hall IVF Centre in England.

In 2002 she obtained her Certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.

Dr Teirney has a special interest in male and female infertility, endometriosis laparoscopic surgery and menstrual disorders.

Dr Teirney consults from IVFAustralia Eastern Suburbs (Maroubra) and Southern Sydney (Kogarah) clinics.



Dr Chandra Krishnan

MB BS (Syd) FRANZCOG

Infertility, Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Dr Chandra Krishnan is a graduate from The University of Sydney. Following completion of general specialty training, Dr Krishnan took up post-graduate fellowships in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. During this time, he further advanced his experience in Laparoscopic and Reproductive Surgery and completed his subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.

Dr Krishnan is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and a member of the Fertility Society of Australia. As an Obstetrician, Dr Krishnan understands the need for dedicated and personalised care required for the resulting IVF pregnancies. He is able to provide this continuity of care from conception to confinement.

Dr Krishnan has appointments at Prince of Wales Private, St George Private & Public, Kareena Private and Sutherland Hospitals. He is also a conjoint lecturer at UNSW and is involved in educational programs for both medical students and practitioners.

Dr Krishnan has a special interest in endometriosis, tubal disease, endoscopic ‘Keyhole’ surgery, and male factor infertility.

Dr Michele Kwik

Dr Michele Kwik graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours at University of New South Wales.  She has been in the specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology for the last 7 years at the Royal North Shore Hospital and in the United Kingdom including attachment to a fertility clinic in Salisbury. Dr Kwik is a member of the Royal Australian College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists, and is a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.

Dr Kwik is currently widening her experience in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (CREI) with IVFAustralia. She has investigated the treatment of menopausal symptoms in women who have had breast cancer, and has published on this topic. She is actively involved in research investigating the impact of progesterone elevation in IVF cycles, with IVFAustralia’s Dr Robert Lahoud, which will be published later this year. In conjunction with Professor Chapman, her other research interests involve pregnancy rates following blastocyst and cleavage stage embryos, spontaneous pregnancy rates following HSG and HyCoSy, and the use of agonist triggers to prevent OHSS.
 
Dr Kwik’s special interests are the treatment of general infertility, PCOS and endometriosis.

Dr Wafa Samen

Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Dr Wafa Samen is an accredited specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 20 years specialist experience.  She gained her initial degree in medicine from Iraq where she specialised and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and she is a fellow of the Arab Board of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
 
After moving to Australia she started training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Mater Mothers Hospital in Brisbane and at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney and gained her fellowship.
 
She gained extensive training in Reproductive Medicine at Westmead Hospital and 
St George Hospital.
 
Dr Samen has developed a special interest in recurrent miscarriages, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and menopause.
 
She is currently under taking her Masters in Reproductive Medicine through the University of NSW.
 
She consults from IVF Australia Western Suburbs (Westmead) and Southern Sydney (Kogarah) clinics and her private consulting rooms at 29 Mary Street, Auburn.

Dr Marcela Martin

Fertility Specialist

Dr Marcela Martin graduated from medicine from Sydney University. She specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology obtaining her fellowship from the Royal College of Australian Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. She then gained further training in reproductive endocrinology with IVFAustralia and obtained her diploma in this field. She has also obtained a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Genetics. Her special interests include recurrent miscarriages, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menstrual disorders and infertility. She is keen to see her patients well supported through the various pathways that fertility treatments take them and is hoping to share their joy in delivering their baby safely. Dr Martin practises from her IVFAustralia rooms at St George Private Hospital. She performs surgery and general obstetrics at both St George Private and Kareena Private Hospitals.
